A floral arch versus a living street

The contrast is concrete. A floral arch is décor. The recreated Mangalorean street at the Shetty wedding — coconut-water stalls, live dosa counters, music and movement — was an experience guests walked through and remembered. Same craft, entirely different ambition.

The seven lessons

A film set is an unforgiving teacher. Seven of its lessons translated directly into how we design weddings:

1. Deliver at scale, on deadline. Film runs to immovable dates — discipline we now bring to three-week wedding builds.
2. Light for emotion. Lighting tells the audience how to feel; at a wedding it does the same.
3. Build worlds, not rooms. Guests should step inside an environment, not face a backdrop.
4. Honour the reveal. The first sight of a set — or a mandap — is a designed moment.
5. Lead large crews under pressure. Coordinating thousands of artisans is a production skill, not a guess.
6. Trust one strong idea. A single clear concept carries further than a dozen competing ones.
7. Story above all. Every visual choice must serve the narrative, or it does not belong.

Scale and the deadline

Film never waits. Working to fixed release dates taught us to deliver enormous builds on schedule — the same muscle behind raising a 100,000 sq.ft. set in under three weeks for the Shetty wedding.

What production design means at a wedding

Borrowed from film and theatre, production design is the craft of building an environment to a precise creative vision — sets, staging, lighting, fabrication and technical delivery, all engineered to concept. In weddings, it is what separates an environment you can rent from one that has never existed before.

Why it must be in-house

A vision is only as real as the capacity to build it. Our 40+ creative professionals and 60,000 sq.ft. production warehouse mean we fabricate to specification rather than settling for what a catalogue offers. In-house production is what lets ambition stay intact from sketch to install.

Built to a scale rental cannot reach

The clearest proof is the Shetty wedding: a recreated Mangalorean temple of over 100,000 sq.ft., 250+ carved pillars and a 12ft Ganesha, raised by more than 5,000 artisans in under three weeks. No rental inventory on earth contains that — it had to be produced.

You cannot rent a world. The grandest weddings are not decorated — they are built.

At the Shetty wedding, food became a story of its own — specialty chefs flown in for each event, culinary showcases staged like scenes. Entertainment, too, was woven into the narrative rather than inserted as filler. Both are experiences to be designed, not boxes to be ticked.

Heritage as a visual language

Culture gives a wedding its deepest vocabulary. For the Shetty family, that meant recreating Mangalorean temple architecture in full — a dream the groom’s mother, Mrs Arathi Shetty, had long held for her son’s wedding. Heritage was not a decorative motif; it was the entire world the celebration lived inside.

Every function, a new chapter

A great wedding narrative unfolds across its events. The same Shetty celebration welcomed guests into a world inspired by Malgudi Days — live tabla, flute and sitar, hostesses with fragrant malas, coconut water and cinnamon coffee on banana-leaf trays — so that each function read as a distinct chapter of one continuous story.

The Samya & Shivam celebration at Raffles Udaipur is a clear example: edgy contemporary art installations, a dramatic Ganesh, and a tribute to Shiva and Parvati woven through the décor — daring and devotional in the same world, designed to make guests feel rather than merely admire.

2001 — where it began

The studio was born from the world of cinema and production design — crafting immersive sets and larger-than-life worlds for film and entertainment. As the founders put it: “Before we designed weddings, we designed worlds.”

2004 — from sets to celebrations

Over time, that craft turned toward celebration. Film-rooted set design evolved into bespoke wedding décor, and DreamzKrraft began transforming venues into worlds that felt deeply personal and emotionally rich. “What started with sets became experiences.”

2015 — designing experiences

Décor was only the beginning. The practice expanded into hospitality, entertainment, guest experiences and experiential celebration design — a shift captured in a line that still guides us: “Luxury is in the feeling, not the spectacle.”

We did not move from film to weddings. We brought film with us — and weddings have never looked the same.

2018 to today — a complete wedding house

By 2018, planning, décor, logistics, hospitality and execution had come together under one vision — a complete wedding house with a single point of contact.
